Your mission

We are looking for a Director of Advocacy and Partnerships based in the United States, to grow the CyberPeace Institute portfolio of activities there.

Your profile
Your Responsibilities
  • Under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Drive the growth of the CyberPeace Builders volunteer network in the United States, convening local civil society organizations, companies and hackers and convincing them to join the program.
  • Lead the Institute’s advocacy work in the United States,  liaising with civil society organizations, private sector government affairs teams, public sector entities (e.g. CISA, White House, Congress, and local administrations etc.), academia and international organizations, on topics related to cyberpeace, cybersecurity, cyber threats (e.g. ransomware, spyware), cyber volunteering, humanitarian protection, responsible use of emerging technologies (e.g. AI), digital diplomacy and others.
  • Lead US-based fundraising activities by coordinating and presenting solid funding proposals to potential donors including foundations, corporate philanthropy, high-net worth individuals and government donors.
  • Attend and organize events on behalf of the Institute across the country (e.g. RSA, DEF CON, BLACK HAT, BSides) and sometimes internationally.
  • Actively engage with teams across the Institute to contribute to their work and connect it to US-based stakeholders.

Your Experience, Skills and Attributes
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the cybersecurity sector
  • Minimum 3 years of cyber-related advocacy experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in philanthropy, ideally cyber-related
  • Public speaking experience at cybersecurity events
  • Ability to collaborate with technical, policy and decision-making audiences
  • Experience in engaging with media
  • Proven track-record of writing about cybersecurity: policy positions, research articles, press articles, blogs, etc. 
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written (native)
  • US Citizenship or eligible to work in the US 
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Demonstrated commitment to work in NGOs - not for profit sector

Additional Skills (optional, but desirable)
  • Experience with cyber volunteer initiatives
  • Experience working in startups
  • Strong command of the Spanish language

Additional Information
  • Duration: indefinite
  • Working rate: full-time at 32 hours per week (Mondays to Thursdays), or part-time
  • Starting date: Q1 2024
  • Location: remote, but ideally around New York or Washington DC
  • Paid time-off: 27.5 days per year + US bank holidays
